Pastel Sketch is an Artistic effect for your images/ photographs in the GNU Image manipulation program. You can download GIMP from gimp.org, it is a cross platform Free photo editing program.
Open an image that you want to apply effect to in GIMP. Then click on the menus
FX-Foundry > Artistic > Pastel sketch
That will open the Script-Fu: Pastel sketch dialog window. The available settings are Detail level, Sketch Length, Sketch Amount, Angle and Canvas texture. If you are using this for the first time leave the settings to its default, and press Ok. That will generate the pastel sketch effect to your image. If you want to keep your original image intact then save the image with a different name from
File > Save as..
Once you get familiar with this effect you can play around with the settings in the Script:Pastel sketch dialog. You can see how an image would look like when you make changes by pressing the Ok button. If you want to undo the change use
Edit > Undo Pastel sketch
And also you can use the Reset button in the dialog box to go back to the default settings.

Sorry friends, I was away for a while. Could not update the articles. However I was quite active in Youtube, mainly posting videos on Ubuntu Linux and other open source freeware. I have made up my mind to pay more attention to my Linux site.
The current version of GIMP is 2.6 and I noticed the menu option "FX-Foundry" . There is a lot of useful options there. So I decided to make videos on the effects available in this menu option.
Here are some of them. This one is about the Photo Effects option in the FX-Foundry. These are preconfigured effects. Watch the video to see how you like it. When you get enough first hand experience you will also be able to make changes in the settings to change the effects according to your ideas.
This video is about the Artistic Effects menu in the FX-Foundry
