mfc42.exe is the name of a file that was used in windows95. Product Name Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 Copyright Copyright Microsoft Corp. 1995 Another company that is using this name is HP. Hp has a file of this name mfc42.exe available for download on their website, which is required to solve an issue regarding the HP Deskjet printers in windows98. And it creates a file named mfc42.dll
But recently this filename is used by virus writers to infect your computer. Most of the instances of the infection report that the malicious mfc42.exe is located at %Windir%\mfc42.exe , in windows XP, that would be C:\Windows\mfc42.exe in prior versions it could be C:\winnt\mfc42.exe
