protect.dll is a filename that has appeared recently in several infections of a Trojan Horse and Rootkit virus. This filename is also found in several legitimate software applications, therefore you need to be careful in determining whether this file is legitimate or a virus.

Delete Files: The place where protect.dll could be found is

%UserProfile%\protect.dll  see report
there are also additional files found alongwith protect.dll

%Temp%\nsrbgxod.bak   see report

This file is also found in the infection of zbot see report 


%System% is C:\Windows\System (in Windows 95/98/Me), C:\Winnt\System32 (in Windows NT/2000), or C:\Windows\System32 (in Windows XP and Vista).
%UserProfile% is C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName] (in Windows NT/2000/XP)
%Temp% is C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp\ (in Windows NT/2000/XP)
